Spend Some Time in Shaw
Looking for the hippest and most modern part of Washington, D.C.? If so, spend some time in Shaw! This great neighborhood is packed with trendy bars, cool shops, and a whole lot of history. What’s not to love?
Howard Theatre
Howard Theatre once saw such legendary icons as Ella Fitzgerald and Marvin Gaye grace its stage. And, believe it or not, it’s still open and hosting some of the hottest musical shows in town. It even got the full restoration treatment back in 2007, but don’t worry! Its natural beauty is still preserved and on full display. Be sure to explore the theatre or maybe even take in a show or two.
The African-American Civil War Memorial
For the history buffs or just those looking to discover more about the past, the African-American Civil War Memorial is a can’t-miss site. There, you can visit one of the nation’s most important statues, one that pays tribute to the 209,145 soldiers of color who fought in the Civil War. There’s even a nearby museum to explore if you’d like to learn more.
ZAAF Collection
Shopping enthusiasts are sure to fall in love with ZAAF Collection, a cool shop that sells products exclusively from Africa. Get a great handbag, some fun accessories, or anything in between. No matter what it is, it will be something you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere!
The Atlantic Plumbing Cinema
Want to catch a movie in the most upscale environment you can imagine? If so, head on over to the Atlantic Plumbing Cinema. You can even enjoy a unique cocktail while you watch. Don’t worry though. Traditional movie snacks—and more!—are on the menu as well.
Believe it or not, this is just a small sampling of all that Shaw has to offer. Why not experience it for yourself by exploring this beautiful, historic area?
